Question 2 – Emphasis: In the composition, where do you detect emphasis? How and where is emphasis used and which elements of design were used to enhance the emphasized object or area (at least 2 elements). Is the emphasis strong or weak, explain?
Danielle, the emphasis in your composition seems to be the water bottle because it is the most opaque of all the objects, which helps to reenforce the theme. This is a very strong use of emphasis because of the contrast between the water bottle and the other softer, less opaque parts of the composition. Also the light behind the water bottle brings attention to the bottle, as well as the people looking in that direction and the birds flying in that direction. Through the use of these imaginary lines the water bottle image, and concept is emphasized. I believe you utilized emphasis very well in this composition.

Danielle,
Question 1 – Value: How is value used in the composition? Include at least three examples of value you identify within the work.(Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include commentary on why it is needed.
Value is used in the composition to create a mood that is uplifting by the use of light values. Value creates 3-d for the water bottle, and the light and dark areas create depth throughout the composition. The contrast in the water draws the attention there, making the viewer feel connected to the water. The contrast in the water bottles in the background also gives the piece an interesting energy. I enjoy the was value was used in this piece, and feel it helped to portray the message.

Greetings, Earthling! We undertsand you use the nomenclature Danielle. We have come here to visit you because we saw your freckles through our high-powered telescope on the next planet out from your star. We have to see them in person!
Just kidding!
I am really here to discuss your use of texture. Or, to be more specific:
Question 3 – Texture: What role does texture have in the composition? Identify at least three examples of how texture is used in the composition. (Detail, pattern, space, and/or design). Be specific, if texture missing or weak explain why it is not working.
I’m going to start with those werd rectangle things next to the palm tree. I have no idea what they are, and I can’t seem to find them in your slideshow with your source material. Any hints for me?
You also used the texture of water several times, a good move since that is the theme of the piece. I found it over the top of the surfer (as a standard wave texture) and in beads by the palm tree.
You also used a “flat” texture in your water… tank? thermos? something or other… (I have a headache, words bad ;P ). That, combined with the value shift to show a highlight and shadow, suggests a smooth metallic object. Good choice.
Now, I have two thing outside my jurisdiction I want to say. 1: The map/globe image you use was of the coast of Africa. Any particular reason (entirely out of curiosity)?
2: I’m not sure what people would think when responding to this. I would personally think of a vacation on seeing this, not of water conservation. Excellent work on staying upbeat, though. My piece was far from it, with oil covered cuks and dead people’s hands in a desert (lol).
Anyway, thanks for putting up with my lame jokes, good luck!
Ryan Derenbecker.
Hi. My question is 4 – Question 4 – Color: Which colors dominate within the composition, which reinforce the concepts of color? How is color value used in composition, give an example? Be specific and use terms related to color.
I think you blend of green and blue is a perfect choice for the concept of water and nature. I think the blue shows water as the overall concept and I think the like the green symbolizes conservation. I think the values in the rays and reflects in the top left feel as if I’m under water. The values of blue/green used to form the droplets also re-inforce the water subtract. Good work.

Danielle,
Im answering Question 5 – Personal Perspective How effectively was the concept of “green-ness” explored or was water sustainability the main focus? Do you think that this student used the elements of value, texture and color effectively to enhance the concept, include examples? How did the branding of the song interplay if at all? If there was text, did the text enhance or take away from the concept, explain?
The concept of “green-ness” i feel was explored well in this composition. Water sustainability was extremely the main focus. From the water bottles to the surfer, to the feeling of being underwater on the top left hand side of the composition. The elements effectively enhanced the concept. The value in the birds, to the texture in the surfer and the different hues in blues threw-ought the composition were nicely used. The composition gives you a nice, calm, cool relaxing feel very much like the song did. The text was not over done and was a good touch. Love It!
